"Operation Raahat: A Successful Indian Military Evacuation during the Yemeni Civil War"

In March 2015, as the conflict escalated in Yemen, the situation became extremely dangerous for the Indian citizens residing there. In response, the Indian government launched "Operation Raahat" to evacuate its citizens as well as citizens of other countries, including countries in the Gulf region.

Under Operation Raahat, the Indian military, specifically the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Indian Navy, coordinated the evacuation efforts. The IAF deployed its transport aircraft and helicopters, while the Indian Navy deployed its ships to rescue stranded individuals.

Over a span of several weeks, the Indian military executed multiple evacuation missions, evacuating thousands of people from various parts of Yemen. The evacuation efforts were not limited to just Indian nationals but also included citizens from countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and many others.

The Indian military faced numerous challenges during the operation, including security threats, limited airspace availability, and a volatile situation on the ground. However, through meticulous planning, coordination, and execution, they successfully carried out the evacuation mission, ensuring the safe return of all the evacuated individuals to India and their respective home countries.

Operation Raahat received widespread acclaim for its effectiveness and the successful evacuation of a large number of people from a conflict zone. It showcased the Indian military's capability to undertake complex humanitarian missions and provided a sense of relief and gratitude to those who were rescued.

Operation Raahat not only involved the Indian military's aerial and naval assets but also required close coordination with various stakeholders, including the Ministry of External Affairs, intelligence agencies, and local authorities in Yemen. The Indian embassies in Yemen played a crucial role in facilitating the evacuation by providing on-ground support and coordinating with the military.

The Indian Air Force conducted numerous sorties using its C-17 Globemaster III and IL-76 aircraft, airlifting stranded individuals from different parts of Yemen to Djibouti, a neighboring country, which served as a safe transit point. From there, they were further transported back to India through subsequent flights. Additionally, the Indian Navy deployed its ships, including INS Sumitra and INS Tarkash, to evacuate Indian nationals from the port cities of Aden and Al Hudaydah.

Operation Raahat exemplified the Indian military's ability to swiftly mobilize its resources and respond to a crisis situation with precision and efficiency. The operation not only prioritized the safety and well-being of Indian citizens but also extended assistance to other nationalities stranded in Yemen. It highlighted India's commitment to the principle of responsible and compassionate global citizenship.

The successful execution of Operation Raahat received international recognition and praise. It showcased India's capabilities in conducting large-scale evacuations in challenging environments and further enhanced its reputation as a reliable and responsible actor in the international community. The operation stands as a testament to the professionalism, dedication, and operational expertise of the Indian armed forces.
